How to Get IT Certifications (Microsoft)
This following section will discuss how you may proceed to get your Microsoft Certifications in Singapore.
1) Pick the Certification You Want
If you're a developer, you might want to first consider Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD). Or if you're a system administrator, the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) is appropriate.
You might also consider the new range of Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications that target specific technologies.
Take a look at this Microsoft Website for a list of all available certifications. Click into your desired certification and then view its requirements. Be sure to understand the skills measured in each exam before short-listing your desired exam combination.
e.g. MCAD can be achieved by taking the following exam combination.
Exam 70–305 Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
+
Exam 70–306 Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
+
Exam 70–310 Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and the Microsoft .NET Framework
+
Exam 70–229 Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition |
2) Register an Exam Date
To register for an exam in Singapore, you will need to proceed to Prometric's Website. You should schedule your exam early, especially if you're looking for weekend slots (they're rather popular).
When you reach the Prometric site, you should proceed to select the following:
- Country of Exam (Singapore)
- Client (Microsoft)
- Program (Microsoft 070, 071, 074, 075, 076)
- Exam (e.g. 70-229)
- Test Site (whichever you prefer, or whichever is available on your desired exam date)
- Schedule Appointment (you will be prompted to login, or go ahead and create your account)
- Pick your date and time slot from the calendar
- Make payment and get your confirmation
3) Prepare for the Exam
There're a few ways you can prepare for your exam. The catch to all these professional certifications is that the exam questions are likely to be tricky.
Therefore the best way to prepare for these exams is to read up on sample questions.
Below are a few providers of such sample exam papers. They're definitely worth the money since it'll cost you even more to retake the exam.
4) Taking the Exam
If you've purchased those sample questions listed above and read through them at least once, it should not be difficult to pass since some of them even provide explanation on the answers.
It is useful to find out what is the passing score for your exams.
E.g. some exams require at least a 700 out of 1000 to pass ..etc.
Be sure to arrive early at your test site for registration and stuff like that. They should guide you on the rest of the procedures.
